Rita Barrie was born in London. In 1963 she married and moved to Sussex. In 1983 she and her husband and two sons moved to Houston Texas where they spent six years before moving to Singapore for eleven years. Whilst in Singapore Rita designed Greeting cards featuring local people and scenes in a whimsical style using pen and ink and watercolour. She donated Christmas card designs to the SPCA and the American Women’s Association and raised many thousands of dollars for charity by their sales. She also provided illustrations for the AWA magazine and designed covers for their various publications.
She and her husband retired to Mandurah in 2000 and it was then that she joined Murray Arts and Crafts. Rita has drawn prolifically since childhood and is mostly self-taught. She enjoys pastels, oils, acrylics, pen & ink and watercolour and pencil drawing. Her favourite subjects are people and animals.
